Ka - Product Model Framework
Aug 2024
Hariharan Subramanian
Ka - Product model framework was developed to help build software products and launch them as a business.
The framework aims to establish a harmonious relationship between software development and business models. This means that they not only rely each other, but also reinforce and support each other.
Key facets of Product Model
Strategic Business Model
&
Product Engineering Framework
'Strategic business model' and 'Product engineering model' form the two key focus area for the product model, providing a harmony between these two.

Strategic Business Model
Product Engineering Model
'Strategic business model' focuses on key components of a business initiative including value proposition, competitive advantage, target market analysis, cost structuring, revenue streams, key resourcing, key partnerships, Funding models. The framework provides templates and recommended standard operating procedures. This covers the viability assessment, valuation & funding aspects of 'Product Model'.
'Product engineering framework' focuses on product conceptualization, software engineering such as design \ prototyping and development, launch. The product engineering framework provides templates, standard operating procedures along with proprietary platform for rapid development using code automation.
Strategic business model
The entire business model framework within the 'Ka-Product Model' is structured through a series of processes and corresponding templates available in Google or Excel Sheets, as well as Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint, or presentations on Pitch.com.
The template format needs to be adjusted to suit the product, associated business model and the market segments, to obtain the necessary insights from the data.

Segment analysis
Sequenced process to gather and analyze data for better insights into target segments

Pricing model
Structured pricing models based on competition analysis, TAM, buyer's power & product packaging

Cashflow model
Funding model to determine cash position based on revenue, expense and investment

Competition analysis
Competitor analysis using Value vs Price quadrant with lagers, challengers, contenders & leaders.

Marketing approach
Process to build marketing strategy and marketing plan based on the market analysis performed above

Financial statement
Financial models built with estimated revenue growth, gross profit, and EBIDTA using pre-designed templates.

Target market analysis
Interconnected process for market analysis to collect & analyze market segment data for TAM analysis.

Revenue model
Process for building revenue models based on segments & products for transaction and recurring revenues

Investment model
Investment model structured on valuation models and funding series models.
Strategic business model sample artifacts
Templates, process and procedures designed to arrive at following insights and artifacts.
Product engineering framework
The Product engineering framework divides product development into three stages, each with a specific focus area. These stages are: product ideation and definition, functional metadata identification and definition and a Rapid development platform using code automation.
The framework promotes innovation by minimizing its focus on product ideation. It only offers suggestions for the general process of ideation and concept creation.
Once the idea progresses to the product definition stage, the framework begins to offer recommendations and the necessary tools to assist with the process.
After defining a product, its essential functional aspects such as actors, journeys, and their interactions are identified using the framework's recommendations and toolsets.
Then, we proceed with the creation of the product by utilizing our exclusive Rapid development platform.
The entire framework is created with the expectation that these three stages will need to be repeated until the product gains traction in the market.

Ideation
Product starts with an idea which involves providing inherent value to a specific group of users

Actors definition
Identifying the primary entities interacting with the concept to achieve the desired capabilities.

Rapid development platform
Provide product build expediency, consistency and scalability through collaborative framework for domain, product, and software specialists

Concept development
Distinct capabilities and features are developed from a meaningful idea and transformed into concepts.

User journey definition
The sequence of steps performed by one or more actors to achieve a specific product outcome

Reusable components
Pre-built programing language specific framework codes, reusable front-end and backend components, standard set of reusable libraries

Product definition
Concepts converted into product definitions by structuring capabilities & features to achieve specific goals

User interaction definition
Distinct actions performed by various actors during the course of the user journey

Code automation
Auto generated functional code using functional metadata definition and capable of handling multiple software technologies
Product engineering framework - Concepts
This framework aims to encompass all aspects of product engineering, starting from the conceptualization phase, through software development, and up to the product launch.
The Product engineering framework is too extensive to be explained in a single page. If you're eager to learn more or see it in action, please feel free to reach out to us.
